Work Responsibilities 

The Business Development Team’s Mission:

• The Business Development Team aims to lead the disruptive growth of Mercoin’s business in order to achieve the company mission of “Circulate your value, anywhere and everywhere.” The team is tasked with coming up with new ideas for what the company should do and consider going forward.
• As part of the Business Development Team, you will be expected to take proactive action to accelerate the growth of Mercoin. This includes leading the planning and development of new businesses and services, forming partner alliances, and getting involved in projects to come up with different strategies to improve and grow our existing services.
• You will be responsible for implementing strategies throughout all stages ranging from planning to execution, including discussions and negotiations with partners and alliances.

Specific work responsibilities include the following: 

• Leveraging field research and usage data from various apps and services to constantly stay up to date on changes in user behavior and similar or competitor services in order to build and progress necessary business alliance policies that help realize company strategies
• Building relationships and collaborating with existing and potential alliance partners in order to plan and communicate the strategies that our company should take, as well as involving stakeholders both internally and externally to drive projects forward 
• Planning strategic actions toward achieving the company's mission, and implementing preparations and initiatives that will yield effective results at the appropriate time

Unique Challenges 

Build an entirely new business model that will change the way people experience the world

• Mercoin’s bitcoin trading service has reached over 2.2 million cryptoasset accounts, becoming the number 1 service in the industry for new cryptoasset accounts opened in the past year (the one-year period between April 1, 2023, and March 31, 2024).
• In this position, you will leverage the various assets of the Mercari marketplace app, the largest marketplace in Japan used by some 20 million users in their daily lives, and plan and promote new services and businesses with partner companies.
• The position entails proposing business models from scratch. Although this will be a challenging position, you will be able to take on the endeavor of giving life to a service that will be used by tens of millions of people. You will have the opportunity to take on many new challenges without fear of failure.

Devise bold strategies without getting caught up in existing frameworks

Many people see cryptoassets as intimidating, difficult, or risky, but Mercari’s bitcoin trading service is designed with a UI/UX that’s simple and easy to understand above all else.

In May 2024, we added ethereum to our cryptoasset offerings, and we expect to increase our users’ options going forward.

We are looking for a leader who can devise plans combining new insights, experiences, and ideas that go beyond the existing framework of Mercoin, keeping the user's perspective in mind to make our products and services even more convenient.

We would like to invite an individual to our team who can engage in close discussions with management and team members and boldly drive strategies in order to continuously tackle Mercari's mission of "circulate all forms of value to unleash the potential in all people" in both the short and long term.

Qualifications 

• Required Experience/Skills
• Shared belief in the mission and values of Mercari Group and its various companies
• Three or more years of business development experience at a startup company or a large company, or practical experience at a strategy consulting firm
• Passion for creating new business opportunities
• Career goal of becoming a comprehensive business producer
• Ability to carry out quantitative analysis

• Preferred Experience/Skills
• Experience establishing or promoting a global business
• Experience contributing prominently to the achievement of KPI goals

• Language 
• English: Independent (CEFR - B2) preferred
• Japanese: Proficient (CEFR - C1)

具体的な業務内容は下記です。 

• 様々なアプリ・サービスの利用や実地調査等を元に、お客さまのサービス利用に対する変化を常にキャッチアップ、更には、近隣・競合サービスの動向を把握しながら、自社の打ち手を実現するために必要な事業提携の方針を構築、推進する
