組織・チームのミッション

メルカリグループは現在、AIをあらゆる業務と意思決定の中核に据える「AI Native化」を全社で推進しています。AIが真に価値を発揮するためには、その土台となるデータが信頼でき、誰もが滑らかに活用できる環境が不可欠です。データ分析環境の整備は、全社の生産性と意思決定の質を左右する経営レベルの重要テーマとなっています。

メルカリのデータ分析環境は月間で約1,200人（全従業員の約6割）が利用し、LLMベースの分析アプリケーション「Socrates」(※)を全社提供するなど、国内でも最先端の水準にあります。一方で、AI活用の広がりとともにデータ活用のニーズやそれを取り巻く環境は急速に変化しており、既存のアプローチでは需要増にエンハンスの供給が追いつかない等、日々新たな課題が生まれています。

業務内容

Analytics Engineerが所属するBI Productチームのマネージャーとして、ミッションの実現に向けた戦略の策定からステークホルダーとの合意形成、組織力の強化までを一貫して担っていただきます。高度に自動化・知能化されたデータエコシステムの構築を、チームの成果として最大化することがこのポジションの役割です。

（業務例）

• ミッション実現に向けたチーム戦略・ロードマップの策定と、課題の優先順位付け・リソース配分の意思決定
• 経営陣を含む社内ステークホルダーとの合意形成、およびデータ分析環境への投資価値の説明・期待値マネジメント
• Socrates、Basic Tables、セマンティックレイヤーといったデータプロダクト群の開発・運用のリードと、品質・デリバリーへの責任
• メンバーの目標設定・評価・育成と、各メンバーの強みを活かしたキャリア開発の支援
• チームの成果・知見の全社への発信を通じた、データ活用文化の醸成

• データウェアハウス（BigQuery等）におけるデータマートの設計・構築・運用、またはBIツールを用いたデータガバナンス・セマンティックレイヤー設計の実務経験

• 歓迎する経験・スキル

Organization/Team Mission 

Mercari Group is currently promoting AI-Native transformation across our entire organization, placing AI at the core of all operations and decision-making. For AI to reach its full potential, it’s essential to ensure that the underlying data is reliable and can be utilized seamlessly by everyone. Developing the right data analysis environment has become a leadership-level priority that will influence productivity and the quality of decision-making across Mercari.

Mercari’s data analysis environment is used by approximately 1,200 people monthly (approximately 60% of all Mercari Group employees) and is one of the most innovative in Japan, with technologies such as the LLM-based analysis application Socrates available to all employees.* On the other hand, as the use of AI spreads, data utilization needs and circumstances are rapidly changing, and new challenges are emerging daily, such as existing approaches being too inflexible to address increased demand for improvements.

We flexibly adapt to these changes and actively lead new approaches, such as automating the data modeling lifecycle. By utilizing AI/LLMs to solve structural issues and building an environment where data products accelerate product development many times over, we aim to make the data utilization experience seamless for all employees and maximize the value provided to Mercari’s users.

Work Responsibilities

As the manager of the BI Product Team, a team of analytics engineers, you will be responsible for everything from formulating strategies toward achieving the mission to building consensus with stakeholders and strengthening the team’s organizational strength. The role of this position is to construct a highly automated and intelligent data ecosystem in order to maximize the team’s output.

Example tasks:

• Formulating team strategies and roadmaps to achieve the Group mission, prioritizing tasks, and deciding how to allocate resources
• Building consensus with internal stakeholders, including leadership, as well as explaining the investment value of the data analysis environment and managing expectations
• Leading the development and operation of data products such as Socrates, Basic Tables, and the semantic layer, and taking responsibility for quality and delivery
• Managing goal-setting, performance evaluations, and talent development, while supporting strengths-based career growth for each team member
• Fostering a data-driven culture by communicating the team’s achievements and insights throughout the company
• Expanding the team’s capabilities and strengthening its organizational strength, such as by leading recruiting

Unique Challenges

• Strategy formulation and management in a new field with no precedents or established answers
• Mercari leads the industry in the use of data and AI, with technologies such as the in-house analysis application Socrates, which leverages LLMs and is available company-wide.
• Because we are on the forefront of LLM applications, there are few precedents to refer to, which will allow you to take on the management challenge of charting the team’s strategy and determining the organization’s direction yourself.
• Building and transforming the data infrastructure that supports Mercari Group’s AI-Native transformation
• Working on a team that goes beyond product development to provide data infrastructure that can be used reliably by both AI and humans, you will have the opportunity to lead Group-wide transformation involving leadership and various divisions.
• High-leverage organizational scaling through systemization and role optimization
• To meet the rapidly expanding demand for data utilization across the Group, the team needs a high-leverage organizational strategy that scales supply ability through automation and systematization rather than by increasing headcount. In this role, you will be expected to increase the team’s value by deciding which tasks humans should handle, which should be left to AI, and which should not be handled by your team.
  
  

Qualifications

• Required Experience/Skills
• Shared belief in the mission and values of Mercari Group and its various companies
• At least 2 years of practical experience managing a team (including goal setting, evaluation, talent development, and involvement in recruiting)
• Experience leading the formulation and execution of strategies and roadmaps in areas such as data analysis infrastructure or data products
• Experience building consensus with diverse stakeholders, including leadership
• Practical experience designing, building, and operating data marts in data warehouses (BigQuery, etc.) or using BI tools in data governance and semantic layer design
• Strong interest or practical experience in leveraging AI/LLMs to improve data infrastructure and streamline operations
• Preferred Experience/Skills
• Experience leading the launch or scaling of a specialized data team (analytics engineers, data engineers, etc.)
• Experience leading discussions with leadership to justify value and build consensus for investment decisions regarding company-wide infrastructure investments
• Independent drive to keep up with rapidly-changing technology trends (especially those related to AI/LLMs) and reflect them in team strategy and operations
• Language
• Japanese: Independent (CEFR - B2) required
• English: Independent (CEFR - B2) preferred
